Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with asphalt paving and road construction operations.

  • Rake,  shovel, spread, level, and finish hot-mix asphalt as directed.

  • Assist with asphalt screed and paving operations.

  • Use hand tools such as rakes, shovels, lutes, brooms, and other construction tools.

  • Assist with traffic control and safe movement of equipment and vehicles around the work area.

  • Clean asphalt spills and maintain a clean and organized work zone.

  • Assist with site preparation, road construction, and site clean-up.

  • Perform general labour duties including shovelling, digging, lifting, carrying, sweeping, raking, and material handling.

  • Assist equipment operators with spotting, guiding, and communicating around machinery.

  • Assist with installation, removal, and maintenance of construction materials and temporary structures.

  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment.

  • Operate basic hand and power tools when trained and authorized.

  • Assist other crew members with tasks as required to maintain productivity and  project schedules.

  • The employee may be required to perform other related duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned by management based on operational  and project requirements.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.

  • Wear  all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.

  • Follow traffic control procedures and remain alert around moving vehicles and heavy equipment.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to reduce hazards.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Previous construction, asphalt, roadwork, or general labour experience is considered an asset.

  • Previous asphalt paving experience is considered an asset.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

  • Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow company procedures.

  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and varying schedules when required by project demands.

  • Valid driver's licence is considered an asset.

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
